self medicating
When I was little and got sick, with a cold or sore throat, my caring doctor dad was quick to give me meds-- be it Dimetapp or antibiotics. Now that I'm older, in general I try not to take antibiotics if possible. Usually when I get sick it'll be a cold or sore throat or some fun combination of the two. This is what I generally do:
- gargle with salt water a few times a day
- take Airborne
- take Dayquil during the day, then Robitussen/Nyquil before bed
- Get as much rest as possible
- Eat chicken soup
The rest is pretty key, and I think the gargling works really well for sore throats. Also, I've found that the key to not getting sick in the first place is to wash my hands FIRST THING after taking the subway or bus. Icky.
